According to an estimation made by the American Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the output value from American Consumer Electronics is about USD145 billion in 2006 and it will soar to USD 155 billion by 2007. To speculate the Consumer Electronics Market in the year of 2007, some features regarding products such as specialization, versatility and compatibility, will be the key factors to succeed in this extremely competitive market. This will mark the beginning of a new era for the total integration among technology, service and digital content, which are promoted by manufacturers in the supply chain of the consumer electronics industry.

 

Trend 1: Better connection and compatibility between PC and digital equipments

Under the promotion driven by consumers’ demand, the development of electronic products has been switched from technological aspects to functional aspects. In order to strengthen market competitiveness, companies regarding the supply chain of Consumer Electronics industry have continuously increased their R&D expenses and human resources, in order to develop innovative products that are practical, convenient, multi-functional integration and applied with user-friendly interface. Moreover, the function that allows PC to be connected with digital equipments has advantages to prevent application limitations caused in remote locations. This movement complied with the consumers’ expectation towards Electronics products.

 

Trend 2: The wireless technology speeds up the connection between various products

The development of wireless technology offer the Consumer Electronics users with more convenience, and could also promote the demand for notebook computer and other mobile digital equipments. Among the development in internet home entertainments, such as WiMAX, Wi-Fi, UWB and 3G in particular, switch the development of ICT industry into the integration and application of Information, Communication and Consumer Electronics.

 

Trend 3: The demand for mobile equipments grows dramatically

According to the statistics made by In-Stat, an International well-known research institution, a great majority of consumer will carry various mobile equipments, such as cell phone, MP3 player and notebook computer. Furthermore, with more than 15% of them will bring 2 cell phones simultaneously. Another reality in the global market is that the musical cell phone is achieving positive sales. Strategy Analytic predicts that the global sale of musical mobile phone will soar to 800 million sets by 2009. This reveals that the demand for musical cell phones has an astonishing growth potential.

 

Now we look at the field of Car Electronics. On the movement of current lifestyle trends to seek safety, comfort and better mobility, the car navigating system and GPS has been considered as major products of the Consumer Electronics market in 2007. Fuji Chimera Research Institute reports that the global demand in 2007 for car navigation system might increase to 9.5 million sets on the stimulation from Telematics. For the global market regarding to in-car receiving device of GPS, the Topology Research Institute has the following predictions: The market scale is expected to expand to 21.9 million sets in 2008, compared with 10.7 million sets in 2004. The annual compound growth will be rise to 19.7%. Therefore it is speculated that the demand for mobile equipments, both for cell phone and car electronics, will lead to a very fast growing market.

 

Trend 4: The development of FPD TV is being focused on the evolution of size, picture quality, exterior and function.

For the aspects of FPD (Flat Panel Display) TV, which has been considered as a main product used in lounge, major international manufacturers are launching several new range of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). For instance, LG and Philips are introducing many new LCD TV, larger than 40 inch in size, to show their ambitions of challenging Sony, Sharp and Samsung. It is shown that the competition regarding longer-size TV is getting tougher in the Consumer Electronics Market. The Topology Research Institute (TRI) has the following speculations: The sales of LCD TV having features of high definition (1080p) and faster scanning (120 Hz) will increase rapidly.

 

Moreover, many new LCD TV will utilize the piano-paintwork technology, invisible speaker and having diverse colors. A trend of multifarious design for TV’s exterior is getting popular. In addition, the new coming slim TV is not just a device that is capable of receiving TV channels, many useful functions – digital tuner memory card reader, DVD player and wireless network – will be integrated into a set of slim TV.
